Barbara Pittman signed to Sun Records in Memphis during its celebrated period in the mids. She had a tough rock'n'roll voice but, despite good songs, had no hit records. She blamed the label's owner, Sam Phillips, for her lack of success. He would promote an instrumental. I said to him, "Why didn't you tell me that at the time and I could have gone some place else. Barbara Pittman April 6, — October 29, was an American singer, one of the few female singers to record at Sun Studio. As a young teenager, she recorded some demos of songs for others. She recalled to an interviewer, "I sang with him, I knew him, I lived down the street from him when we were kids in North Memphis. His mom and mine used to get together to have what they called Stanley parties.

Although Bear Family Records managed to fill a complete 6 CD box-set of women at Sun, only a very few actually had records released. Not even in her teens yet, she went to Sun Studio for an audition but was turned down by secretary-in-chief, Marion Keisker.
